The Raven, Redone

It’s not the Raven but the black cat that comes tapping at the small cat door! It’s not easy to imitate the rhyme scheme and dialect of any poet, especially one as unsettled at Poe’s Raven, but this really captures it.

At a recent poetry reading in which I participated, one of the poets read two poems about women of the Civil War–one of whom was a dog named Sallie who actually has a bronze monument at Gettysburg for her service.
